What is a dedicant? A dedicant is someone who has entered into a sacred contract with a teacher or group, who wishes to learn and grow as a witch, and in their devotion. Dedication is the first step towards formal membership, and as such, persons who choose to walk the path and join the coven must do so only of their own free will. The vows a dedicant takes are not something to think light of, and are sacred to our practice. During the dedication, dedicants learn about the church, the gods, and our practices within; they also start becoming acquainted with the specific practices of the coven and its leaders. This is done to prepare the dedicant for their spiritual journey and help them ease into coven life
Why choose to dedicate? There are many reasons a person may choose to dedicate to a coven, but the most common ones are; 1. A person wants company in their craft! Solo worship has it's perks, and it definitely has its place, but for some people it is simply more fulfilling to be a part of something bigger than themselves, and our coven often provides that for them. Covens and religious groups are much like families, we are a close knit group of like minded and loving individuals, who take care and support each other both mentally and spiritually to enrich our lives. So for many, it is a great resource to have! 2. A person wants to learn! While we live in an age where resources are plentiful, one of the best resources when learning about the old gods and their worship is to have a dedicated teacher! Our Coven and it's affiliates are filled with persons of all backgrounds who are more than happy to teach students the ways of the gods, and the ways of their craft.
How long does the dedication period last? Traditionally, dedication lasts one year and one day; but the Covenant of the Rose believes that everyone learns at their own pace, and as such their "year and a day" can be as short or as long as the dedicant needs to feel secure and ready to join the coven!
